   Riël Malan:
A Christian Voice in South Africa
Vol. I No. 12
Nov. 16, 2006

His music is accessible from numerous sites around the net, high quality music... from two years ago. Are we so inundated with good Christian music these days that an excellent songwriter like Riël goes relatively unnoticed? (Since emailing this newsletter, Riël has informed me he's working on a new CD.)

It certainly isn't because of lack of effort in getting his music "out there." But it looks like we as the church are falling prey to that same subtle media effect: "It's all in the marketing." How much a "product" is marketed bears a direct proportion to its value. Or at least that's the unspoken, unwritten assumption. It's most likely we have slipped into that trap because we're so overwhelmed with the information in our inboxes, in our magazines, newspapers, conferences, that we only have time to listen to the loudest voices—those we see everywhere and by default begin to notice.

Site Spotlight

For all new guitarists who struggle with the number of chords and chord changes in many of our worship songs, this site may be of interest. You'll find chord reductions of many well known worship songs. A nice bonus—chord reductions of Christmas carols, perfect for the season. The site was just updated at the end of October, so it's likely that it will continue to be updated with worship songs, adding to its already fairly extensive list.

The site belongs to Eileen Jahna, who includes some of her songs on the page along with a demo mp3.

This is another installment of Pastor Dan Gardner's series, True Worshipers of God. For this complete series on audio, go to WorshipToonz on this page. You can also find much of Dan's music, recorded and published, on this page. Each song has its own audio and leadsheet demos.

Session 3: Priestly Ministry/
      Moses’ Tabernacle               Part 2

Dan Gardner

In Session III Part 1, we saw the importance that God placed upon the first ministry of the priests being unto him. In this session we will look into the Tabernacle of Moses and see some of the dynamic truths important to the life of the worshiper.

The tabernacle and temple in Scripture are symbols of God’s dwelling with His people; The Tabernacle of Moses & David and the Temple of Solomon in the Old Testament, and in the New Testament, Jesus, the Individual Believer, the Corporate Body of Christ, and the ultimate joining of the Bride and Bridegroom in eternity, which all represent places where God’s presence dwells with and in His people. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit, a place where God’s presence dwells.

So it was in Moses’ Tabernacle that God established a twofold purpose:

  1. I will prepare a habitation” Exodus 15:2 - a place where the manifest presence of God would dwell, and...
  2. The Tabernacle would serve as a place in which worship would be offered.

Note that in all Tabernacles and Temples God dwelt in the Holy of Holies. His shekinah glory lives in a place that has been set aside for Him. He is looking for a Holy of Holies in us as temples also. Have we prepared that place for Him?

The Tabernacle of Moses was a mobile tent that was constructed and carried through the wilderness for forty years into Canaan land, finally established on Mount Gibeon; it was there for hundreds of years.

This Tabernacle represented the law. Israel had refused God’s desire to make them a “Kingdom of Priests.” They traded relationship and grace for law; someone else could do their worshiping and sacrifice for them; they just wanted to be instructed in what God said to Moses, refusing to communicate to Him on their own. It is important to understand that the Old Testament priesthood and tabernacles couldn’t fulfill God’s perfect plan; God was just seeking a consecrated people that would minister to Him. Finally, through Christ, that priesthood is perfected.

Surrounding the “law” that the Tabernacle of Moses represented was God’s prescribed design for pure worship; Jesus fulfilled and perfected the law through the shedding of His blood. The Tabernacle of Moses is highly detailed and speaks in typology.

  • If you study it, you will see Christ; He is in the Tabernacle, He is in us, He is our tabernacle, He dwells in us, He lives in our spirit.
  • We offer spiritual sacrifices at the Brazen Altar.
  • We stay clean by the Blood and washed daily in the Word at the Laver.
  • We walk in the sevenfold light of the Spirit at the Golden Candlestick, manifesting the gifts of the Spirit in the church.
  • We call to remembrance the broken body of Christ at the Table of Shewbread, breaking bread with other believers.
  • Then we offer pure, holy incense at the Altar of Incense both in corporate and individual expression of praise, worship, and prayer, ascending into the Holy of Holies - dwelling in Him!
