True Worshipers of God Series

hands raised in praise
Session 1: Foundations of Worship
Dan Gardner

Psalm 100 - A progression for entering the presence of the lord…”Enter his gates with thanksgiving, courts with praise, come before his presence with singing.”

Attitude of gratitude, expression of gratitude; focuses on what God has done; gets our attention off ourselves and our problems, and on the Lord; creates an atmosphere for His presence.

"I Will Enter His Gates” - a doorway into the presence of the Lord.

“By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving THANKS to His name.” Hebrews 13:15

synonyms…acclaim, extol, laud, commend, exalt! God’s word filled with encouragement to praise the Lord! We are commanded to praise the Lord 332 times. It’s a “major” in Scripture.

Psalm 150 - “Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord.”
If you have breath, praise!

Praise, singing - focuses on His majesty and splendor; focuses on His attributes, on who he is! God inhabits our praise and is enthroned, or rises to His place of authority in us.

“But thou art holy, O thou that inhabits the praises of Israel.” Psalm 22:3

Where THANKSGIVING creates an atmosphere for the Lord’s presence, His presence inhabits our PRAISE, our hearts then respond to His manifest presence, and we WORSHIP,
communing with the Lord.

...a heart response to the presence of the Lord, and it is that heart response expressed.
Worship should be expressed in thanksgiving, praise, singing, lifting hands, bowing...

Thanksgiving and praise can be a prelude to worship, or a response in worship.

An attitude/expression of thanksgiving accelerates an attitude/expression of praise.

An attitude/expression of praise accelerates an attitude/expression of worship.

An attitude/expression of worship accelerates a HUNGER for GOD!

A no-frills, in-depth content site that's been around a while, so it's got a lot to give us in music ministry.

Steve Pruitt's informative site JustWorship.com doesn't try to be flashy—it doesn't have to be. Content is king here; from great articles and advice on worship and worship leading to free books and music, as well as a generous library of lyrics & chords of worship songs.

Delve into the original Hebrew and Greek words in their worship context in the Scriptures, or browse through the word studies for a deeper understanding of what's behind the translated English. And don't forget to download the free books (as pdfs) Steve wrote.
